In 1936, my grandmother Neva Jean Boerma and her family boarded a cruise ship for an around-the-world tour. She visited countries and cities from the Mediterranean, through the Indian Ocean, then through the South Pacific, Hawaii and ending in California. Her ship, the Empress of Britain made a number of these cruises while serving the Canadian Pacific line.
